The length of your couples counselling session is based on many factors including your counselling needs, concerns, goals, scheduling preferences, and financial resources.
Couples counselling requires both partners to hear and be heard, which naturally takes more time. Although couples counselling sessions can be 50 minutes long, many couples prefer and benefit greatly from 90-minute couples counselling sessions to work more deeply on their important topics and concerns.
Once connected with a couples therapist, you and your partner will establish the session duration and frequency most suitable for your specific relationship needs as well as your availability and financial situation.
Hey, we are so flattered that you are interested. Thank you!

The short answer is yes.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. It can be used in the context of couples therapy in various ways. For example, EMDR can be used to address individual trauma that is affecting a couple’s current relationship or to address trauma that is directly related to the couple’s relationship, such as infidelity.
Our Couples Reconnect team’s Marggie Marks and Marcella Galizia offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy.
Fees for our specialized sessions are $240 to $260 per hour based on the therapist’s level of expertise, training, and qualifications.
If you want to work with a supervised practicum student, our fee is $100 per hour.
Our group fees are based on the number of total sessions and topics. Please check our Groups page for specific details.
Please note our cancellation policy: if you cancel your appointment less than 48 hours or two business days before, or you fail to show up for your arranged session, you will be charged your full session fee.
For parents who need additional support with their children and family, we also offer specialized couples counselling through our Kids Reconnect (KR) branch, which is also part of Calgary Reconnect Counselling Group (CRCG). Our team approach offers flexibility and bench strength to adapt our services and strategies, combining various therapists and modalities to support you in your main relationships.
In families who have children, the most effective counselling comes from supporting not just the couple’s needs, but also the needs of each child and the family as a whole. Parents and siblings represent the main relationship in kids’ lives—kids need specialized support, too.
That is why we offer various types of sessions to comprehensively support couples, kids, parents, and families.

Sometimes partners are not ready to join you in couples counselling. You may start your relationship work individually to reflect on aspects of the partnership over which you do have power and control. Our therapists are trained to build your curiosity about your relationship needs and how best to express these needs in your partnership. In any partnership, feedback is an important part of communication. If we can help you to change the ways in which you relate to your partner and express yourself, you may find that this improves the challenges experienced in the partnership and breaks unhealthy patterns of relating or communicating with one another. After experiencing this positive shift, a reluctant partner often becomes more curious and open to exploring couples counselling together.
A therapist will meet with you and your partner together to understand your relationship concerns, gather the necessary background information, and establish treatment goals for your work together. You will discuss your rights, responsibilities, as well as service benefits and limits with the therapist. We encourage you to ask questions about the counselling process.
Couples counselling requires you to share your talking time with your partner and explore each other’s perspectives. It is not uncommon for partners to have different expectations, goals, or concerns at the start of therapy. As such, the initial meeting is intended to clarify expectations for each partner and establish common goals in our work together.
Many benefit plan providers such as Alberta Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, and Desjardins provide coverage to individuals and their dependents for psychological services. Please contact your benefits provider directly, your employer, or reference your benefit plan booklet for more information on your coverage.
You can easily reach your therapist by email or call them directly at the number that has been provided to you. If you are unable to locate your therapist’s contact information, please email our intake team [email protected] or call our main phone line (403) 815-0271 and a friendly Intake Specialist will be happy to direct your call during regular business hours.
Please contact your therapist immediately via email, phone, or by using our JaneApp in the event you need to cancel your arranged session. Cancellations less than 48 hours or within two business days will be charged at the full session fee. It is your responsibility to ensure your therapist is aware of your cancellation notice.
If you have an emergency situation that cannot wait until your next appointment, please consider calling your therapist to schedule an emergency session. Our therapists will make every effort to see you at the office at their earliest opportunity.

Couples Reconnect, a branch of Calgary Reconnect Counselling Group, acknowledges that we are gathered on Treaty 7 territory, the original home of the Blackfoot Confederacy, comprised of the Siksika, Piikani, and Kanai First Nations; the Stoney Nakoda, comprised of the Chiniki, Wesley, and Bearspaw First Nations; and the Tsuut’ina First Nation. This territory is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. Located on this traditional territory, our mission is to spark reconnection and healing within couples, kids, parents, and families. We do this work with respect for these First Nations and in a spirit of humility, kindness, inclusion, and diversity.
