REGISTERED PSYCHOLOGIST

SHE/HER/HERS

Katie is a Registered Psychologist and a member
of the Couples Reconnect team

of relationship-focused therapists in Calgary.

Catherine (Katie) Musgrove is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). She holds a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Lethbridge.

Katie’s specialty is working with children and the adults who raise them. For over nine years, she has developed her expertise in supporting parents and kids within group therapy, in-home, community agencies, educational, and clinical settings. Her experience with couples derives from her work with parents and adults who are going through interpersonal challenges, including the many nuances of working with families, such as high-conflict separation, foster care, and intergenerational trauma.

Her graduate-level training mostly involved working with adults and she is trained in a variety of adult counselling modalities, including Emotion-Focused Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.

Humour, fun, and play are not just for kids.

In her work with adults, Katie also draws from a variety of specialized child counselling modalities. These include Synergetic Play Therapy, AutPlay Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, and Child-parent Interaction Therapy, also called Theraplay. She has continuously found that her play therapy training has supported not only her effective counselling work with children; it has also enhanced her creative ability and therapeutic skill in counselling adolescents and adults.

“Play, a humorous approach to life, and cultivating joy are the hallmark of well-being. Connecting with the child within can be what heals adults and reconnects couples.”

Couples Reconnect, a branch of Calgary Reconnect Counselling Group, acknowledges that we are gathered on Treaty 7 territory, the original home of the Blackfoot Confederacy, comprised of the Siksika, Piikani, and Kanai First Nations; the Stoney Nakoda, comprised of the Chiniki, Wesley, and Bearspaw First Nations; and the Tsuut’ina First Nation.  This territory is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. Located on this traditional territory, our mission is to spark reconnection and healing within couples, kids, parents, and families. We do this work with respect for these First Nations and in a spirit of humility, kindness, inclusion, and diversity.
